How to make your first tandem skydive epic, easy & stress-free

There’s no doubt that skydiving is the thrill of a lifetime. However, we realize it can also be stressful. After all, you’re going to be jumping out of an airplane – what could possibly prepare you for that?! Well, we’re here to help.

Here are our top tips to make your first (or any) tandem skydive stress-free and epic as ever.

Book your skydive in advance

First and foremost, just book your jump in advance. At Skydive Santa Barbara we accept walk-ins, however, there are no guarantees. When you book your skydive in advance, you’re automatically given priority and have reserved your slot. If you walk in, you’ll have to wait until there is an opening for you, as everyone who has reserved in advance gets priority.  Book your skydive with us here.

If you’re going with a group

If you’re going with a group and want to be in the same plane so you watch each other dive out, again, make sure you book in advance. This is especially important for those with larger groups. At Skydive Santa Barbara we can accommodate up to a group of 7 in the plane at the same time! Just make sure you book in advance so we can make sure your entire group is in the plane together — especially on busier days where many others are reserving their slots as well.

Before your skydive

Dress for success (success = comfort). Before you head to the skydive center, make sure you check out the weather where you’ll be skydiving. If it’s going to be a bit chilly, we recommend wearing a sweater or hoodie. If it’s going to be rather warm, a t-shirt is sufficient. Also, wear comfortable footwear (this means avoiding high heels or boots, for example). If you’re not sure and want some advice, just call and ask!

Avoid last minute hassles. Before you leave your vehicle, remove everything from your pockets. Make sure you leave extra belongings in your vehicle as well. Remove loose jewelry, or anything that you could possibly lose in freefall.

During your skydive

Relax and have fun! The key to having the best skydive possible is literally those two things. Try not to stress, relax your mind and your body, and most of all – have fun!

Look out, don’t look down. This is something common we see and makes a tremendous difference in your skydive experience. If you look straight down, you will create a lot of wind resistance directly on your face. If you look out (at the horizon), the wind resistance will NOT be on your face, and you will have a much more pleasant experience. You will also want to look out toward the horizon because you will see SO much more. At Skydive Santa Barbara you will see the Pacific Ocean, rolling hills and vineyards, Channel Islands, Point Sal up to Pismo Beach, flower fields and so much more!

Now that you’ve got the pro tips, you’re ready! Book your tandem skydive today!
